Dark Knight Rises Viral Blitz: Bane's Gotham Attack Plans Revealed? (PICS)

Heads up, Dark Knight Rises watchers: A cool bit of viral marketing just arrived on my doorstep detailing what appear to be the dastardly plans of Tom Hardy’s S&M baddie Bane. If you’re remaining spoiler-free, I’d advise you not to hit the jump for more… not that I can really make heads or tails of the elaborate map of Gotham City he’s marked up with his dastardly plans. Fire’s about to rise, y’all! Okay, so we’re agreed — anything beyond this point could very well be spoilers. (Having pored over the contains of said package, I can at least say that I’m still fuzzy on exactly what I’m looking at.) Also: HOW COOL IS THIS MAP OF GOTHAM CITY?? But I understand if you want to remain as virgin-pure on any details whatsoever for the Dark Knight sequel. In which case, why did you even click this far? Anyways. The package consists of a mysterious mailing tube wrapped in what appears to be a map detailing an attack on Gotham City orchestrated, ostensibly, by Tom Hardy’s S&M villain Bane. Inside, a t-shirt declaring “Fire Rises” emblazoned with Bane’s silk-screened mug. I’m sure you’ll be able to find it at a Hot Topic near you soon enough. But back to that map: Scrawled all over it in red Sharpie are plans for a 5-front attack on Gotham City noting “GPD response time,” “Rally points,” and “Check point: Bridge/tunnels.” I know maps of the fictional Gotham City are nothing new, but still. So. Cool. Take a closer look at the five “strike zones” below. If you can make sense of this, be my guest! And please share your notes with the rest of the class in the comments below. Charlie Sheen's Ex Brooke Mueller Receiving At-Home Treatment for Addiction

Brooke Mueller Charlie Sheen's ex-wife, Brooke Mueller, is receiving at-home rehab treatment more than a week after being arrested on charges of felony cocaine possession with the intention to distribute, Us Weekly reports. "Recognizing past attempts at treatment have not been successful, Brooke has decided to take a different approach to deal with her addiction," Mueller's spokesman, Steve Honig, tells the magazine. "Brooke will be participating in a program during the day, and will be under expert supervision 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, Brooke has requested to be tested on a daily basis for cocaine and other illegal substances so there is no doubt as to her commitment." Brooke Mueller arrested for cocaine possession and assault "Brooke will retain custody of her children, both of whom will continue to remain at her home and be cared for by Brooke and their longtime nanny," Honig also told Us Weekly. "Charlie and Brooke's family are all fully supportive of this decision and recognize the importance of maintaining the children's normal routine." Mueller, 34, was previously arrested on charges of cocaine possession in March 2001, but the charges were later dropped. She has been in rehab twice within the past year and as recently as July. Mueller and Sheen married in May 2008 and Mueller gave birth to twin sons Bob and Max the following March. (He later pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault as part of a plea deal).

Robert Downey Jr. Says Paul Thomas Anderson Collaboration Is 'Probably True'

Although Robert Downey Jr. has been all about the superhero action star spectacle films recently, we can't forget that his body of work pre-"Iron Man" involved a virtual smorgasbord of characters in a lot of quieter think pieces, TV dramedies and quirky indies. Therefore when the news broke earlier this year that Downey Jr. and director Paul Thomas Anderson might be working together on a big screen adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's "Inherent Vice," it seemed like a perfect fit for moviemaking magic. Anyway, when MTV News caught up with the man in question at the press day for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" recently, we asked him if the report about "Inherent Vice" was fact or fiction. "Anything to do with Paul Thomas Anderson and I doing a movie together is probably true," Downey Jr. said. "We tend to talk about a variety of potential projects, and Thomas Pynchon's 'Inherent Vice' could be great, we'll see." We mentioned the fact that we have hope for the pairing, despite the fact that the in-demand actor seems to be constantly booked. "I feel like I'm booked but I'm not. I make space for what I want to do," he said, adding that what he enjoys most about Anderson is the fact that he's talented and just darn likeable. "I just think he's one of our great American directors, I just like hanging out with the guy." "Inherent Vice" is set in the swingin' '60s and Downey was rumored to play Larry Doc Sportello, an L.A.-based private eye who takes on a case involving an ex-girlfriend, her real estate billionaire boyfriend and a kidnapping.

'Thor 2' Director Patty Jenkins Exits

When Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning July 23, she left behind five Grammys and scores of tabloid headlines -- but little new music. John Lasseter Talks Pixar's Mind Movie

'It's unlike anything youve ever seen'Back in August, in the Disney D23 event, Pixar stalwart and Monsters, Corporation/Up director Pete Docter introduced he and producer Jonas Rivera were working hard on the new film for that studio, due in 2014 and presently known as The Untitled Movie That Can Take You Within The Mind. Now John Lasseter has revealed a small extra snippet concerning the plot.Speaking around the Charlie Rose show, Lasseter broached the topic of Pixar's approaching slate, including mythological adventure Brave, prequel Monsters College, The Untitled Dinosaur Movie (being directed by Docter's Up collaborator, Bob Billings) and also the Mind pic.As they did not hand out much (this really is, in the end, John Lasseter, a guy who pads his company's future film secrets exactly the same way Qq Abrams does), he did say a bit, including mentioning the setting. Yes, the brand new film "happens within a girl's mind which is about her feelings as figures, which is unlike anything you have ever seen."Which maybe it was for that discussing, however it certainly boosts some interesting points. Setting the plot inside a girl's mind means Pixar appears devoted to responding to experts who've lengthy were not impressed with the possible lack of female lead figures, and the idea of feelings and concepts being described as living, breathing creatures inside a 'toon movie is unquestionably fascinating. We can not wait to determine what all of this means, but sadly, we'll need to be patient, because the first trailer likely will not hit not less than annually...The job interview, incidentally, touches on from Pixar's history to the culture, and you will take a look here.

Angelina Jolie Accused of Pilfering Blood and Honey

A Croatian author has filed a lawsuit suit accusing Angelina Jolie of lifting parts of his 2007 novel for her writing-directing effort In the Land of Blood and Honey, basically arguing that the female protagonist in both works is subject to “being raped continuously by soldiers and officers” before becoming “a servant at the camp headquarters, a duty assumed by very few of the captives.” Having seen Blood and Honey, I can tell you this isn’t even an especially accurate description of the film or the context of the woman’s servitude, but hey. No such thing as bad publicity, etc. etc. [Radar]

Beyonce Opens Up About Pregnancy in Katie Couric Interview on ABC

On Wednesday morning, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Steve McQueen, one of the most exciting and eccentric young filmmakers in the world. McQueen, of course, shares a name with the great anti-hero of sixties cinema (not to mention a similar independent streak), but the similarities stop there. This Steve McQueen is black, British and alive -- and when he makes a film, he's less concerned with being cool than being provocative.our editor recommendsTHR's Directors Roundtable: How to Fire People, Who to Steal From, and Amy Pascal's Secret AdviceShame: Film ReviewNudity, Three-Ways, Hints of Incest: A Studio's Plan to Sell 'Shame' to Oscar It seems that McQueen, 42, has always been artistic, serious, and a bit counter-culture. He grew up loving art; came to the U.S. to attend NYU's Tisch School of the Arts; but quickly concluded that it was not for him and left to pursue more unconventional sorts of filmmaking on his own. Before long, his unusual work -- such as Bear (1993), a black-and-white silent short in which he and another man appear naked and exchange glances; Deadpan (1997), another black-and-white silent short in which he reenacts Buster Keaton's famous house collapse stunt; and Drumroll (1998), for which he mounted cameras to the side of a drum that he rolled down the streets of NY -- was being noticed, appearing in galleries, and garnering acclaim. His greatest recognition came in 1999, when London's Tate gallery awarded him the Turner Prize for best visual artist under the age of 50. PHOTOS: Films that Narrowly Avoided an NC-17 He says now that he long harbored a desire to make a feature-length film, but struggled to settle upon a fitting subject. By the mid-2000s, however, he had one: Bobby Sands, the IRA hunger striker whose story had captivated him decades earlier. He co-wrote and directed Hunger (2008), a gritty film that was never widely seen beyond the festival circuit, but received rave reviews (it wound up at 90% on Rotten Tomatoes); provoked a great deal of interest from the industry in McQueen (whom film critic Roger Ebert described as "an artist who employs merciless realism"); and introduced the world to Michael Fassbender, the Irishman who he chosen to play Sands, and who looked shockingly gaunt after losing nearly 40 pounds for the part. Though McQueen had his pick of opportunities after Hunger, he took three years before embarking on his next project, a film about a subject that is arguably the hardest to sell in prudish and puritanical America: sex... more specifically, sex addiction. The more McQueen learned about sex addiction, the more it reminded him of what AIDS had been like in the eighties -- a real, widespread affliction that is all around us, but that few of us are aware of and/or choose to acknowledge. And once he decided to make the film, there was no question how he was going to make it: realistically. VIDEOS: THR's Awards Season Roundtable Series 2011 -- The Directors He cowrote a script with Abi Morgan (who also penned The Iron Lady) that chronicles the lives of and relationship between Brandon, a successful 30-something NYer who is secretly a sex addict, and Sissy, his emotionally-unstable younger sister who moves in with him when she loses her apartment. Having made full disclosure in the script that full-frontal nudity would be required of the actors who played both characters and explicit sex scenes of a wide variety would need to be simulated by the male, he secured committments from Fassbender and Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan, and the ball was rolling. After 25 days of filming in NY City, the film was in the can, and on its way to the world. Shame was never going to be an easy sell. With that sort of content, it was inevitable that it would receive an NC-17 rating, which has historically scared away distributors, since few exhibitors have ever been willing to screen NC-17 films (due to their inherently limited audience) and few publications have ever been willing to feature advertisements promoting them (for fear of offending their readers with sexually-suggestive materials). But when the film began playing on the festival circuit, winning rave reviews and stirring up all sorts of provocative conversations about the world in which we live today, Fox Searchlight, arguably the most daring of the indie distributors, decided to take a flyer on it. They may have been motivated by a desire to foster a long-term relationship with McQueen; or a sense that, with the help of their famously creative marketing team, they would almost certainly make a return on their investment; or a genuine desire to bring a first-rate film to a larger audience. The truth is probably a combination of all of the above. But the bottom line is that they have lined up a significant number of theaters that are willing to show the film; are widely publicizing it; and are optimistic about its prospects in the market and with awards voters (especially for Fassbender as a best actor contender). VIDEO: 'Shame' Red Band Trailer: Michael Fassbender Brings Sex to the Subway As for McQueen, he's only mildly interested in how the film does at the box-office. Spreading awareness about the issue of sex addiction is, for whatever reasons, infinitely more important to him, and the degree to which his film does that will define, for him, whether or not it is a success. In the meantime, he and Fassbender are already getting set to work together yet again. (The actor has said that he hopes to have a Martin Scorsese/Robert De Niro-like relationship with the director, and the director seems to share that desire.) For their next film, Twelve Years a Slave, they'll be working with a considerably bigger budget and costar -- Brad Pitt -- but if what's past is prologue, I wouldn't expect a film any more mainstream or less critically-welcomed than Hunger or Shame.
